It could definitely be worse. There could be rampant hyperinflation leading to rare cards selling instantly for 99.9 million coins.

I would rather the odd rare card being insta bought at 99.9mil than the situation we have now where you can't sell a whole batch of cards beit nobody will pay up, or the card is worth more than Scott will pay you.

EA have managed to make the AH worse year on year, which takes some doing to be fair.

True. I mostly just avoid having any of those cards Laughing

I've been trying to sell the Matt Schaub card I won in the raffle for the last week and change.  I had it down to 260k because I kept lowering the price for it.  I checked today and the lowest listed price is still over 300k.  I had stepped down 40k below the lowest price and couldn't even get a bid.

I'm giving it to the Bears.  I think the GB offense is going to have some growing pains.  I'm going 31-17.

...I don't know about it being alive, but sometimes mine are pretty motivated in the morning... especially after a couple cups of coffee.

I haven't been playing unranked OD (really only playing the bare minimum to hit HoF as is) but I might start just to knock out those achievements.

You know, once I get through all the KO events, the arena, ranked OD, burn my stamina on Legend events...

I always forget how crazy this is until we start preparing for a storm that is targeting our respective home cities.

Two years ago I spent 14 hours trying to get out of Florida. Lots of us did and it was frightening. Hoping I could find a hotel that could take my wife, two kids, dog and my mother in law. They were all full. Gas was out everywhere. It was two weeks before I was able to go home. And it mainly missed us.

We are all remembering that craziness this time, and Orlando took a hard hit with lots of destruction. I can only imagine the tension is high there right now.

At the same time, I'd say good on you for getting out of town.  I have two cousins who live around Lakeland with their families.

One cousin had his kids' fort wiped out by a tree coming down.

The other one had a tree cave in the room where his teenage son had been only moments before - if I remember correctly, he'd been on the computer and the power had gone out.  So he left the desk and went elsewhere in the house; the tree came through right where he'd been sitting.

Until we start building all homes along our coast like brick shithouses, we're going to be at Mother Nature's mercy.  And she can be one fickle bitch.

  • posted a message on Reminder: Our studio is in Florida

Be safe and good luck, but did EA Ownership ever consider not having their studio in a highly dysfunctional state that is annually assaulted by hurricanes?

You know, I thought I was pretty much in the clear of major disasters in Central Missouri - I'm on a hill and don't have to worry about flooding (at least not personally), no hurricanes, nothing insane for snow, and enough hills and the river to buffer from tornadoes.

...then a tornado walked right up through the center of town this spring, and I spent a weekend clearing downed trees at my dad's house.

There is no "safe" space.  Mother Nature will always just do her thing.

Though if EA would like to relocate to Mid-Missouri, I have nearly 20 years IT/IT Management experience and a near-fanatical devotion to football.  Also, the cost of living is much cheaper.

Be careful.  Stay safe.  Don't be afraid to evacuate if the fan hits your... stuff (but please evac beforehand).

  • posted a message on NotACow's Confusing Conundrum for August 26th, 2019 - (There are prizes!)

Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to everybody.  Yesterday was a pretty busy day.

Thanks to everyone who worked through my puzzle!  It was a lot of fun watching everyone grind through the mess.  Here's the total solution:

The "Little Jack Horner" rhyme was there to make sure the puzzle was solved in order, as the solution for the first number would help lead you to the second, and so on.

"Hickory Dickory Dock" talked about selling stock at 12.  The capitalized CRON referred to a company, Chronos, which is traded on NASDAQ.  Looking that stock up on Motley Fool would show a graph of its closing values.  On 8/21, the stock closed at $12 even.

Converting that date to "821" (your first number), a Google search of that number listed USCIS document I-821 as one of its top search results.  I-821 is for requesting a temporary protected status in the United States.  By referencing "Grandpa" in the "Eeny Meeny Miney Moe" rhyme, it led you to check the price for someone over the age of 65.  With a filing fee of $50 and biometric fee of $85, the total cost of "Grandpa" coming to the US was $135 (your second number).

The final rhyme talked about a teacher who didn't go to school that day.  So she called a "temp".  Figuring that a temp meant "substitute", and a Google search of "135 Substitute" directed you to an XKCD comic where a teacher was insisting that math was important, and gave two word problems involving trying to escape from velociraptors.  The solutions to these problems provided the final two numbers, as the beginning of the riddle told you that you must provide "numbers four".

The verification of the end of the problem came from the phrase "this is a matter of life or death", as this was one of the key lines in the XKCD comic.

Again, thanks a bunch for participating!  I've handed out 1 MHC to both jawabomb and tb17, since they came to the answer together and did most of the heavy lifting on this.  I also sent a few partial awards out throughout the event for the effort put in.

Keep an eye out for more of these as I build up some more MHC.  I'm sorry I don't have any secrets to divulge, but at least I can help supply some raffle tickets to make things interesting.

The answers to the math questions in the comic are:

    • The first is 37.3 meters.
    • The second is 18.6 degrees to either side of the wounded raptor.

Could it really be that simple...

    Number #2: 135

There was an old teacher who lived in a shoe.

She felt really sick, so what should she do?

She called up a temp, sent instructions and plans.

Then crawled back into bed, still in her jams.

    "Substitute" teacher

Oh great Google gods, lend us your wisdom.
