Never knew that Disney bought ESPN

Disney never directly bought ESPN, Disney acquired ABC a long while after ABC had acquired ESPN. ESPN came along for the ride when Disney bought its parent

It won't affect Fox news. Fox news was the main component that was not part of the purchase.

Now that Fox Corp. has sold off most of its entertainment properties, it has become a standalone company that will retain ownership of its broadcast network, owned-and-operated network affiliates, the Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network and Fox Sports.

This may be unpopular - but skip college altogether unless you have a scholarship or someone paying for it, etc.  Everyone I know in my life who has a college degree is 100-150k in debt from it and makes less money than me.  I have no degree (I'm in sales)...

Check into the trades that's an area you can make some serious cash!

Debt isn't a problem to me. The people who get into debt after college are the people who don't have good financial management. Wherever I go, I'm going to get a big scholarship and even if I go into debt, I can budget it so I can plan it and get rid of it in less than a decade.

FYI wonka,  this is the kind of things people warned you about in your thread about not liking general chat and feeling attacked. This is a statement that demonstrates lack of knowledge and you making a lot of assumptions about people.

Wonka, there is some really solid advice in the above comments. Don’t ever think one specific (or in this case 8) particularly historic schools are all there is to aim for. There are A LOT of great colleges and if you’re ever going to go into politics I’m guessing you’ll be going to law school, so let law school or grad school be the time to be particularly choosy about programs.  You don’t need to know what you’re plan is in high school, you only need an idea that shows you’re thinking about plans. I went to college planning to have one career. I changed my mind midway and now I’m back in school on a third plan.

After years as an independent team, the Whitecaps joined the National Women's Hockey League this season as the league's 5th team. In their NWHL debut they went 12-4 to win the regular season title, and as the first seed enjoyed a first round bye in the playoffs. In their second round game against the 4th seeded Metropolitan Riveters (formerly the NY Riveters before they moved to Newark, NJ) they crushed their competition and today they defeated the Buffalo Beauts 2-1 in overtime to capture the cup.

As JD states, people went from saying the United States are, to saying the United States is. I do think there is some validity to what Dark Passenger is saying, as from the perspective of the union states lacked the authority or right to secede in the first place, so from a union perspective the secessionists would indeed be traitors.

The Iron Man franchise is so unbelievably good. Cap is my favorite hero but speaking purely on the movies, Iron Man might have the better franchise.

1 and 2 i liked. Wasn’t a fan of 3. Seemed like made it just to make it.

Have to have some background with the comics to really enjoy that one imo. The Mandarin is THE Iron Man villain in the comics. Hes the guy who created the 7 Rings group(the bad guys in Iron Man). He is like the Emporer in Star Wars. Darth Vader gets all the love as the villain but the Emporer is the one running the show. Same thing here. They did a poor job of explaining that tho so you need to know the comics to get it. Hes been pulling the strings since Iron Man 1 but was never explained well.

The final battle with all the suits is awesome tho lol

Did you see the marvel one shot where it’s revealed the mandarin is real and much more sinister?

I have not. Ill have to give those a watch.

I’m torn on this subject not because I live in the south but i love history. I don’t like seeing anything historical taken down or removed. You cant erase history but you can explain it. Same reason why auschwitz is still there and hasn’t been bulldozed.

A key difference I think must be pointed out is these statues went up years after the war. They aren’t relics from the war but representations of a continued effort to subvert society. Auscwitz is itself a relic of the holocaust and Second World War. It remains as a relic to the mostrocity it was part of.

Very good point and I agree but the statutes and monuments still tell history and the story behind them. I think the world has become so pc and everyone is so easily offended by what has happened many years. If you get rid of history you’re doom to repeat it. Maybe there is a place for it besides on public property. But the outrage over it is a bit silly to me.

I understand. My undergrad was in history and I would never want to erase things set to ensure remembrance. I think the plaques that provide context to the statues is a good idea. I also think removing the statues and replacing them with the plaques could be a good idea to remove the statues while taking steps to ensure history is recorded at the spot.

I think Namtih raises a valid point that the cost of removal can be high and those funds could go elsewhere, but I personally think it was an error that these statues were ever allowed to be erected in the first place, and thus the cost of fixing an error is a cost worth bearing as a society.

Let's go Mr. Trump! Coming in CLUTCH with the executive veto. Sad to see all these fake republicans like Romney and Collins. We need more real republican Senators, such as the likes of Lindsey Graham.

More Senators like Lindsey Graham? His dear friend John McCain is turning over in his grave right now. In general, I have a lot of respect for Lindsey Graham, because he served this country with distinction just like John McCain. Most don’t know this, but Lindsey Graham is a retired Air Force Colonel. Both times I was in Afghanistan he and John McCain visited my location together and Lindsey Graham did it in uniform. He only retired, because he was forced to when he decided to run for President in 2016. All that said, he sold out. He’s taken the easy wrong over the hard right all in the name of politics.

Saw something not long ago showing that Graham latches onto those with power and influence. As McCain was dying he was shifting toward Trump as his next influential benefactor.

Long name lady stepped in it again... calling out people sending thoughts and prayers ... the people that got murdered were religious people whats more appropriate than praying FOR them???!?!? God I’m so fing embarassed that waste of space went to BU sully the hell out of a good college she does

More appropriate than prayers is action to make sure these tragedies stop. Smh words don’t stop violence like this. Action to address the radicalization that caused this shooter to think he had any reason to shoot innocent Muslims. Action to reduce the ease with which the shooter got a gun. None of those “thoughts and prayers” do anything if they aren’t accompanied by ACTION.

Prayers without accordant action are silent lies told to oneself, heard by no God, amounting to nothing. Action is the language of truth, the prayers of the Saints. -Mark Ruffalo

No need for the trolling yall It’s not very KAWAII

The only trolling I see is in your comment that I replied to. If you think we were trolling, then it’s clear you don’t understand the seriousness of how prayers are meaningless if not accompanied by action.

I recently came back to the site after taking a break. If you want happy go lucky general chat, you gotta avoid the politics threads and always be careful to show that you respect someone’s opinion even if you disagree. If you don’t show respect for differing opinions it’s too easy to begin attacking and inciting attacks back on yourself.
