This will be my 3rd consecutive season as a "serious" NFL DFS player. Meaning I am putting time in researching and building a lot of lineups
However, this is the first season I will partaking in Preseason DFS.
If you aren't into DFS this might seem stupid. Why would someone want to gamble on preseason NFL games?
It's actually a lot more profitable than regular season NFL DFS.
Why? Because a lot of people don't keep up on who's playing and who's not.
For example, for the Hall of Fame game this year, there were a ton of Draftkings lineups that had Devonta Freeman. He was declared out well before the game.
As a fan of free money, I thought I would give Preseason a try this year.
This week (Preseason week 2) a ton of lineups on Draftkings, Fanduel etc will have all first-string players, but in some cases they'll only play for a drive or 3, and some not at all.
Cool Story Bro time:
Why do I play DFS?
Have I ever won anything?
Yes, twice worth mentioning.
#1. The second time I ever played DFS I lucked out bigtime on Yahoo DFS. 1st place out of 27,000. I put in five $1 entries and for 1st place I got $2500.
Week 16 2015. It was a mighty "powerhouse" lineup with a Bortles, ARob and Hurns stack vs Saints, Tim Hightower runback, Ruben Randle min-salary play for the SNF game when Victor Cruz was hurt
#2. Last season (2018) in week 4 i got 3rd place out of about 245,000 entries for $1500. It was a Draftkings 50c contest with a max entries of 150. I played all 150 so I had $75 invested that week.
Another "powerhouse" lineup with Marcus Mariota and Corey Davis stack, that was the week they went to OT at home vs the Eagles
What's the common thread with these 2 big-hit lineups? It's pretty obvious so I probably don't need to even say it:
QB's who everyone thinks suck (because they do, usually) so not many people are playing them, and also their salaries are cheap.
Frees up salary to spend on the expensive guys. Like that Mariota/Davis stack, I was able to put in two of the most expensive guys that week, Kamara and Zeke. They might have even been the two most expensive players overall that week (Barkley was probably up there too)
GL this year. I haven't had any success in the NFL. Maybe you could guide me in the right direction? Do you make you own projections or get them somewhere else? Use Rotogrinders? What's your process?
hey good luck to you too bud.
i have used rotogrinders for preseason projections, but i wont be using them for regular season
in the past i would read evan silva's matchups column every week which is/was fantastic, now he has left rotoworld and i am not paying $180 for a season of dfs analysis
i do have a free month of rotogrinders because i got a top 10 finish on dk with their badge (ealrier in the thread i mentioned my 3rd place) that will last until week 4...
they do have the most awesome bulk lineup generator but i think this season i will be making my lineups bespoke and fewer quantity, larger buyin, instead of cramming from friday night to sunday morning, barely sleeping, and building 150-300 lineups...
im serious about stacking that lions cardinals game i really really like that game for contrarian stacking
i remember a couple years ago winning a little, nothing crazy, week 1 stacking goff gurley and i cant remember if there was a WR, mcvay's first season, because they were playing the colts who had possibly the worst defense in the league at the time. NO ONE was on gurley, he was considered a bum remember? and everyone thought goff sucked, his second season i believe.
well now youve got 2 terrible defenses with the lions and cardinals, kyler murray looked like shit in the preseason, and the lions have a reputation of always running never passing even though we havent even seen them play a real game with darrell bevell as OC yet
for GPPs that game is obviously a HUGE contrarian spot and stacking stafford + golladay or /marvin/kerryon (rather not IMO)/hockenson, run back with kirk, or stacking murray + kirk/fitz/DJ run back golladay, whatever .... you get the idea. no one will be playing that shit, thats some milly maker winning shit there potentially. stacking mahomes hill and kelce aint winnin the milly
i got carried away/off track, so to answer your question, i like to listen to as many dfs podcasts for the week as i can to get as many different perspectives as i can, tj hernandez at 4 for 4 and awesomeo are the sharpest guys to me, i think awesomeo is subscription streaming service tho... i like the rotogrinders swolecast on friday night mostly for entertainment value but also to get a good idea of what "the masses" are thinking about who to play, and sometimes you can gleam something sneaky and insightful from it. on the live stream friday nights that is free on youtube, replay you need to have a RG sub
