I don't think Teddy is your only hope, but I wouldn't commit the team financially to Keenum after this year regardless of what happens in the playoffs. Teddy has all the upside.. similar (if not better) talent as Keenum but 5 years younger.. the fans love him, and I just see that as something to hold onto more than the career journeyman QB who had 1 good season. Maybe he will have a few more good seasons but I wouldn't bet 18mil a year on it at 30 years old or w/e he is.
That's just me. Teams don't pay for 2 QBs. So you pay Keenum now means you're letting Teddy go later on. I don't see it both ways. And I doubt Keenum is going to accept a "journeyman" contract after the season he's had this year.. that kinda forces y'alls hand a little bit. Now if he was willing to accept a cheap contract then absolutely, go ahead and re-sign him. I just don't think he will want backup money anymore in the QB needy NFL... he's gonna want starter pay.. which puts y'all in a bind when it comes to Teddy.
Perfect analysis. Another thing to consider is if Shurmur stays or leaves. If he leaves, less upside to keep Keenum v. Teddy. Shurmur has an offense which appears tailor made for Keenum. Imagine if he had someone like Norv. Would it work as well? Debatable.
Teddy with a pick. I understand that he is rusty but to think people think the only way we win the Super Bowl is benching Kennum and starting Bridgewater has always confused me. Maybe the little mistake (which cost our defense a shut out) stops this ridiculous conversation.
Just 2 passes. Doesn't mean much.
That's true, Zap. And I never thought the pick was an indictment of Teddy, just about how fortunate we are to have Case. I know it sounds like I hate Teddy, not true at all!!! I just felt like Teddy needed to grow as a player and I thought he would then this injury occurred. I' not sure he will ever reach his full potential now. I love what I see out of Case. Would love to see Teddy and Case both get signed and battle it out for the starting job next year. We really need a long term QB.

I have extreme doubts that we'll keep both Teddy and Case. Both will want to start and, at least in Keenum's case, he'll want to cash in and get a lot of money and several years. 30 years old with just a good season under his belt and on a very favorable situation.
There are too many teams in need of a starting QB for us to have a chance to be able to hold to both of them. And we can't pay starter money to both. So, a decision will have to be made.
Shurmur's presence or absence will also have implications. If he leaves, the new OC will have a say on who he wants as QB.
So, for the time being, let's enjoy the ride and we'll worry about this after the season is over. SKOL!

I think we should sign them both, if not to keep them both on the squad, to trade one of them. With the needs that several teams have this year, we could get significant compensation for one of them. Let's reel in a pick or 2 in a decent place and have trader Rick move up a couple spots in this years draft.
According to both Keenum and his wife they like it in Minn and would love to stay. Now the question is how much $ do they want. And also how many years! If Keenum wants to be paid starter money ($20M) that doesn't leave much wiggle room to also sign Teddy. The question also is, will he want to sign with the Vikings if they have offered starter money to Case? What advantage would he have? It would serve his interests better if he went to FA and was free to negotiate with whoever wants him. And even if he wanted to sign, how much would he ask? He also has the aspiration to be a starter and he's always been a confident individual. Therefore I don't see a low salary as acceptable. Maybe he'll accept a one year prove-it contract. But only if he's assured the starter position! Which would not happen in Minn.
All this QB signing stuff is a very complex situation. We, as fans know what we want, i.e. both players. But each one of them must do what is best for them, not what is best for the fans or the organization. Rick and the rest of the involved people have a tough situation to handle.
For now let's win some more games and worry about that later!
Great win we needed to make a statement at home after last week! I can see Teddy getting in a little time like today in the next two. We need to concentrate on Case continuing to be the man into the playoffs.
Rams look scary good today against a decent D!

You know, as a Colts fan, I have not had much to look forward or cheer for a team much. But Vikings has been the team I have truly enjoyed watching this year. I really really hope they make it to Superbowl this year.
Happy to see these 4, especially Thielen, but honestly believe we deserve more. Linval, Harrison, and most of all Keenum more than deserving.
Those 3 you mentioned undoubtedly should be pro bowlers. Snubbed.
Yea it's hard to argue against Wentz and Wilson, but there's no argument for Brees over Keenum beyond name. Shocked to see Harrison miss. Linval been a game wrecker all year, easily should be there

Brees is just a name.
A very good name I must say. I'm shocked to see Byard miss in the AFC along with Suh. They have both been dominant not sure why they missed.
Case has been great. He should technically still be going because there is no way that Wentz is playing in Orlando with an ACL tear lol. But still Brees has had a clean year in all fairness.

I mean don't get me wrong, brees is a good qb with a great career, but that's just it. He's had a 'clean' year, not a solid year unlike a few others in the nfc that i thought should've been above him in the voting. His team has been good but for once in his career, he's definitely not the reason behind it. Those 2 rookies and ingram - if they weren't ballin (like at the beginning of the year), the saints would have about 5 wins at this point. People voted for the name.

I don't necessarily believe this is true. The Saints have always been a pass first offense since Breesus has been there. This is the first year they've transitioned to a more balanced (slightly run heavy) approach and that's due to the talent they have at HB.. absolutely. But that's also why Breesus isn't leading the league in yardage and pass attempts and maybe even TDs again this year.. he doesn't have to with the HBs playing as good as they are.
I know the Saints have struggled these last few years but the offense has never been a problem. They were putting out historically bad defenses for Breesus to work with and as a result lost a ton of games. But Breesus has always lit it up on offense even though he's had to shoulder the bulk of the offense and throw 3+ TDs every game. Since he has a better defense and run-game this year he hasn't had to do what he's been doing for so many years and his lower numbers reflect that.
The Saints may very well have only won 5 games if not for Ingram or Kamara but I personally don't think that would have been the case. I have always been of the mindset that Brees can carry an offense no matter who he has to throw to, as long as the team provides a competent defense to go with him. And so far this year we've seen a dramatic improvement in that regard. And since the run game has been so strong he hasn't needed to throw 35+ passes a game or get 3+ passing TDs each game in order to win.. because the run game controls the clock and sustains drives and the defense isn't forcing them to play from behind every game like they used to.
I haven't looked at his season numbers over the other guys who were left out from the Pro Bowl, I specifically just wanted to comment on the Saints success.. take away Kamara and Ingram and I still think Breesus finds success on offense and the team wins games as long as that defense continues to play the way it's been playing. That's what he's been missing for much of his career.. a competent defense.
Football Jesus reincarnate in the form of the guy known as Drew Brees.. hence Brees-us
I understood what you meant but it's stretching it a bit too much, no? How would the conversations be if everybody started using that kind of stuff for every good player out there? Von Millerus? Tom Bradyus? LeVeon Bellus? Julio Jonesus? It wwould become pretty ridiculous, no?

Fair points. Like i said, he's definitely had a great career throughout. Give him a defense and he'll be great, assuming he doesn't have a run game. Give him a run game and a defense and he turns in a very average year. Yes, it may be because he doesn't have to throw 3 tds on 55 attempts, but that's my point. And it's not even that he's been bad or anything like that this year, but people are voting for the 2010-2015 brees, not the 2017 one that doesn't have all that great of numbers. I personally feel that if you give him the defense they had in weeks 1 & 2, he repeats last year's 7-9 record AT BEST. I say at best because the nfc south is absurd this year.
Stafford, keenum, goff all better picks this year imo, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Pro bowl and all-pro are two different teams and no one really cares about the pro bowl itself other than the free trip to Hawaii.

The only QB that Vikings should be concerned about is Rodgers.
