The run game was kinda nice today (imo) but the two failed 4th downs were just bad calls to me.. especially the first one when they were going to quick hike the ball but the refs called timeout to bring out the chains.. after that they should have just switched to FG.
As for the passing offense.. the loss of Edelman is obvious... The open separation in the middle of the field where we usually move the chains just wasn't there tonight.. no1 was able to get open over the middle, and because of that, Brady had to throw to contested/covered receivers all night and just hope that they could win a jump ball.. Our receivers aren't winning many jump balls.. so that needs to be addressed during practice. Gotta find plays and ways to get our guys open in space. I think we'll see some more shuffling around and some free agent signings and/or practice squad promotions to find someone who can work the middle of the field moving forward.
As for the defense.. it was already paper thin before the season started, the front seven is terrible, but we knew that from the get-go.. we were already going to have one of the worst pass rushes in the league, but losses to Rivers, McClellin combined with the cutting of Ealy and the retirement of Ninkovich butchered us... gotta figure something out because our team will live or die with that defense. The offense will always be there.. but the defense makes or breaks us moving forward.
The one thing I feel I can say in confidence is that Brady didn't show any signs of decline (IMO). His arm is still there, the footwork is still there. He made the throws he's used to throwing and missed the throws we've seen him miss before.. big difference today was the lack of open routes over the middle that Edelman usually creates. But definitely too early to even consider a Brady decline.

I agree with the offense, but I believe if Hightower didn't get injured we could of easily won the game. Cassius Marsh is awful.

If i'm not mistaken Marsh wasn't brought in to be a linebacker.. We had him listed to play Defensive End and to help our edge rush. They ended up shifting him around when Hightower went out.

That is exactly the problem, we need more depth at the linebacker position, what if Hightower gets injured later in the season or in the playoffs?

Yeah Hightower is the focal point in the defense which can good because he brings the team as one but bad because if he gets injured it is terrible for the team

Edelman's injury could work out in Garoppolo's favor.
