To me, the best story of the night goes to Chris Hurst, who won his election tonight running on a platform of reducing gun violence. Hurst is the boyfriend of slain reporter Allison Parker, who was killed alongside Adam Ward when a gunman executed them on live TV two years ago.
Between him and Danica winning, that's two freaking amazing stories right there. Kudos to both of them. And to add some irony, it's ironic that Danica won her seat, as a transgender female, against a man who introduced a bathroom bill designed to attack transgender people. It's also ironic that Hurst won his election against an NRA-backed opponent.
