Definitely surprising. There were some fan theories that said he'd live but I never thought he would. The sound of the gun at the end and Rick just like going limp killed me. One of the most emotional scenes I've seen.
Ya definitely one of the saddest deaths so far. Weird that they are straying so far from the comics now, but i guess it makes the show less predictable now.
I think, unlike the comics, this show will have to have an end and that is why they are moving in this direction. It was a really powerful/sad episode that sets the tone for the rest of the season. I'm interested to see how they proceed with the Negan arc.
Yes, the show will ultimately come to an end. Personally, I feel as though they need to end it in the next couple of years. I know it's hard to allow a show to end when it has the viewership of TWD. However, I think that ratings are going to really tumble following the conclusion of this season anyway. The show has really gotten away from what made it so great in the beginning that it hardly feels like the same show. No longer a band of people trying to survive the zombie apocalypse (if a character is killed by a zombie, its now a fluke or forced), the show is now, more often than not, forced human drama. Don't get me wrong, save a couple of episodes (the last two in particular), I've enjoyed this season. However, the previous 2 seasons were pretty awful... so much so that I just about quit watching at the midway point of last season.
Kind of ranting, but Id rather the show end on a high note than drag on for as long as it pulls ratings high enough to justify its existence.
I agree 100%; I want the show to finish strong and not limp to the finish line. This sounds crazy, but I'd almost like them to just surprise us with the ending. For example, not tell us its the last season and just wait until the last episode or two to just suddenly/shockingly end things when we least expect it (kind of like they have done throughout the show with all of the characters' death).

A surprise ending would be crazy and cool.. but I think if the network wants to draw alot of attention and viewership (especially with a show as big as the Walking Dead), they will definitely advertise the heck out of the series finale. I think people that have walked away will come back and just see how "everything ends."
